Dahab is Sinai's diving town: a seafront lined with restaurants, a market, and dive sites as well known as the Blue Hole and the Laguna. It is far more of a town than the strips to the north.
The range of places to stay is the widest in Sinai, from cheap hostels in town to resorts on the shore, which is why so many people choose it for a longer stay.
About an hour and a half from the Taba crossing, and about the same from Sharm airport. Either approach is reasonable.
Most dive centres are in Assalah or along the promenade. If diving is the reason for the trip, stay near them.
