St. Catherine is up in the mountains of central Sinai, not on the sea. It is the base for climbing Mount Sinai and the site of the ancient monastery, more than 1,500 metres above sea level.
There are few places to stay and they are simple. Most people spend a single night, either before a sunrise climb or after one.
About two and a half hours from the Taba crossing, driving inland from the coast. The road is mountainous and winding.
Nights are cold here all year, even when the coast is warm. Pack accordingly.
A few short questions about the kind of trip, how far from the border you want to be and your budget, and we show only the places that fit - across all of Sinai, not just here.
